Types of Referrals
There are a number of referrals you can make to Duke EAP. The type of referral you choose is based on the specific situation you are experiencing with your employee.
- Supervisor Suggested Referral to Duke EAP:
At the point you first recognize your employee is exhibiting work performance and/or work behavioral problems, suggest Duke EAP as a resource for your employee.
- Supervisory Referral to Duke EAP:
A supervisory referral is made in instances when negative job performance and/or behavior:
- has been identified by the supervisor/manager;
- has been clearly documented with expectations for improvement clarified;
- has been communicated verbally and in writing to the employee by the supervisor/manager, and
- has not improved within the time frame agreed upon by the supervisor and employee.
- Mandatory Supervisory Referral to Duke EAP:
If an employee violates a company policy (e.g., Drug and Alcohol Policy), he/she is usually required to seek assistance through Duke EAP. An employee's compliance with Duke EAP recommendations is usually a condition of the employee's continued employment. For clarification of your company's policy related to Mandatory Supervisory Referrals, consult your Human Resources Department.
